Widely recognized across international maritime corridors as the Premiere Port, the Lagos Port Complex stands as the earliest and largest commercial shipping gateway infrastructure in Nigeria. Established in 1913, the site underwent significant engineering transformation in 1921 with the construction of its first four deep-water berths. Over the decades, it has evolved into a highly equipped maritime hub, balancing modern cargo handling machinery with expert terminal support layouts.
To drive operational efficiency, eradicate infrastructure bottlenecks, and minimize ship turnaround times, the Federal Government successfully introduced the Landlord Port Model. This regulatory modernization culminated in the formal concession of Apapa terminal zones to elite private operators in 2006. Today, the complex boasts five independently managed private terminals backed by local and international operations expertise:
Operates as an ISPS (International Ship and Port-Facility Security) certified port facility registered with the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Features a dedicated four-wheel heavy gate of approximately 8 meters engineered exclusively for the clearing and handling of oversized project cargoes.
Seamless intermodal logistics connections branching directly across active Rail lines, Inland Waterways, and Road transport networks.
Houses advanced on-site industrial manufacturing installations producing consumer Sugar, Salt, and Flour within terminal factory boundaries.
Maintains comprehensive 24-hour marine pilotage, berthing operations, and customs clearance procedures.
Equipped with multiple deep-water logistics bases, including specialized offshore hubs like LADOL and Eko Support Services.
Secured by continuous surveillance matrices integrating armed and unarmed professional guard detachments with automated Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) coverage.
